Rammed earth construction and design
Earth is the oldest construction material on the planet. It is abundant in every region and provides us with a sustainable, fully re-usable source of building material. Rammed earth is the process of compacting clayey earth into forms(shuttering), then removing the forms, leaving the earth walls exposed. By using different blends of earths, we achieve beautiful layers.
The benefits of rammed earth include:
- High thermal mass, meaning great indoor temperature control
- Humidity control, breathable walls,
better health for occupants - Sustainable building material
- Beautiful to look at
- Very low maintenance
- Extremely durable
- Low cost – design dependant

Hemp/Lime construction
Hemp/lime, or often called, hempcrete, originated in Europe. The market for these super insulated homes is growing rapidly around the world. More and more research is being done and the list of benefits keeps growing! Hemp/lime can be used in many different applications i.e. wall system around a timber frame, insulated subfloors and ceilings. There are even hemp bricks that can be used in a load bearing application.
The benefits of Hemp or Lime construction include:
- Extremely insulative
- Hypo allergenic, superior indoor air quality
- Humidity control, breathable walls, better health for occupants
- Renewable resource, plant grows very fast and provides many uses
